One of Kaizer Chiefs’ newest recruits is set to finally make his debut this weekend, telling SABC Sport that Amakhosi is the ideal club for the next step in his career.
The Glamor Boys have signed Dillan Solomons from Soweto rivals Swallows FC on a four-year deal. The player chose Amakhosi because of a new project being carried out by sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jnr and coach Arthur Zwane.
Both Royal AM and Orlando Pirates went after the 23-year-old, but in the end the Chiefs won the race for his signature.
Solomons could feature in his first away game against AM in the DStv Premiership opener on Saturday night.
“The Chiefs were in the rebuild phase and the way they did the rebuild I felt like I could fit in here and basically it’s a big brand so playing for Chiefs will mean a lot to me – not just for me and my family too.
“I don’t think it’s really taken off yet, but this is a big opportunity for me, even if I’m just here with fans, it means a lot to me. I don’t think I’ll be there in the first game yet if I fold or if I get the chance in the first game it’s going to really sink in,” said Solomons.
It has now been several weeks since he left the Dube Birds to join the Chiefs in preseason. Solomons says he has “settled in very well” and praises the players who have welcomed him.
What obviously drew all three clubs – Chiefs, Pirates and AM – to Solomons is his speed of work and versatility.
He wants to build on what brought him the big step in the first place.
“Basically, I like to work hard, whether it’s a simple little session, I’ll give it my all whenever I have the opportunity to train or just play a friendly, so I think listening and the desire wanting to play will help me a lot this season,” he added.
While his role with the Chiefs has become clearer over time, Solomons was used primarily as a right-back with the Swallows by coach Dylan Kerr.
The former 100m sprinter believes this is his best position.
The opening game will set the tone for Solomons and his new team-mates, and he adds that the John Maduka-led side will not simply roll over.
