Attackers from Cape Town City Khanyisa Mayo teammate advised Terence Mashego not to join the Kaizer Chiefs.
Mashego has been tipped to join Amakhosi after his outstanding performances in recent years made him the favorite of Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos.
The left-back was instrumental in City’s second-place finish securing CAF Champions League football for next season.
The Chiefs, who finished fifth in the DStv Premiership standings, failed to qualify for CAF’s Premier tournaments and Mayo would not understand if Mashego moved to a club not in the Champions League plays.
“My advice to Mashego would be, he knows what’s best for him; look at what happened to players who went to the Chiefs last season and didn’t deliver,” Mayo said, as quoted by kicking off.
“Putting on the Kaizer Chiefs jersey is a pressure in itself.
“For example, you can go to Mamelodi Sundowns and triple your salary, but the big question is, will you get game time there?” he asked. “For example, who would have thought that a high-profile player like Teboho Mokoena would be sitting in the stands?
“As players, we have to understand that you need luck first. Instead of just chasing the money, a player improves by playing.
“There was a time when the Chiefs relied on this kid, Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, when they couldn’t sign players. Look at him now; does he get playing time? No.
“For example, I’m happy with my team; I wouldn’t get the credit of being selected for the national team if I didn’t play.”
