WITH the Zulu royal family divided along factions, family members struggled to insist on Saturday that the family was united but had only a difference of opinion, as in any other family .
The Zulu royal family today attempted to play down the divisions within the family which saw some family members appear in court to challenge the appointment of King Misuzulu KaZwelithini as successor to the late King Goodwill Zwelithini and to also challenge the authenticity of the will of the late king.
Princess Thembi Zulu, sister of the late King, who, along with her brother Prince Mbonisi, is among those who oppose the appointment of King Misuzlu as King Zwelithini’s successor, said there was no camp in the royal family.
“This thing troubles me because it’s a family, it’s a house, all these palaces are a house. We don’t see him as divided, it’s just the views that differ within the family.
“There is no team here because we do not play football here and I do not support anyone,” said Princess Thembi.
Princess Thembi, Prince Mbonisi and the daughter of the late King, Princess Nombuso Zulu, held their own press briefing on Saturday, following that of Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi on Friday, in which he criticized the traitorous members of the Zulu royal family who had gone ahead. with a hunting cleansing ceremony without the approval and participation of King Misuzulu.
Buthelezi said on Friday that the ceremony, which also includes the cleaning of the late king’s shield, spears and rifles, was to involve the new king, but that they were told it took place unbeknownst to the king.
However, the Zulu royal family insisted that all family members, including the king, had been informed that the ceremony was taking place.
“I don’t think the issues of cleaning up the late king’s weapons are of concern to members of the media, but as a family we had a schedule to follow when it comes to cleaning up the king’s property. We followed this in accordance with the traditions of the throne, ”Prince Mbonisi said.
